Reflection Essay Reflection - 879 Words

I was eager to see how my research paper had been scored for I felt that it was one of my best works, worthy of an A. I turned to the last page of my 6 page paper only to find that I was 2 points off the expected grade. The disappointment that immediately followed was justified by my thoughts as I questioned Ms.Brumbacks grading policy. I confirmed my beliefs when my friends had received even lower marks, that contradicted their intelligence. As quickly as these thoughts came to mind they left, for I am a reasonable person and I dont let my emotions judge logical events. I had received a low grade because I only spent a day writing the research paper and my bibliography was pitiful. The grade I had received did not reflect my†¦show more content†¦If I had been given an A, then my procrastination would have been continued to be validated, as it had been in many of my other courses. That B gave me the reality check I needed, to encourage me to write this assignment not one da y in advance, but two ( its a process okay). What I learned was that my procrastination would get me through high school but not college. Sure a B isnt a failing grade but as valedictorian it sure wasnt something Im proud of, especially if I knew that I couldve given more if I gave myself more time. Im pretty sure I will finish up this assignment and still feel like I could have given more, but lessons take time to be applied. My procrastination isnt something I can change in one night, but Im glad Im going through the transitioning process in high school rather than in college. Lower marks than what im used to also have helped me grow, not only as a writer but as an individual. I still have issues with some grammar rules, especially my tenses, but I can identify these mistakes more efficiently, compared to when i first started taking discourse; a skill that helped me get through the writing section in the ACTs. Personally, beyond writing Ive learned that minor setbacks and getting things wrong are apart of life and are essential for growth. I was so used to being praised for my work that I became comfortable with the level of my skills, instead of trying to improve them.
