Rap Or Hip Hop Is More Than Just Another Music Genre
Rap or Hip Hop is more than just another music genre, it is a movement full of more aspects than one could imagine. The film ââ¬Å"The Art of Rapâ⬠directed, produced, and hosted by Ice-T, exemplifies the different aspects and explains the importance of Hip Hop while taking a journey interviewing many legendary MCââ¬â¢s, giving the viewer an inside perspective of this music and the art of MCââ¬â¢ing. This film also heavily resonates with the book Rap Music and Street Consciousness. Ice-T interviews many influential and important MCââ¬â¢s in the rap game, both old school and new school, enabling the viewer to really gain knowledge on the role of the MC. Three MCââ¬â¢s interviewed that really explain the role of the MC is Grandmaster Caz, Ice-T, and Big Daddy Kane. During Grandmaster Cazââ¬â¢s interview, he explains how he started out as an MC, taking his parents old funk and soul records and rapping over the beats. He believes the most important part of rap is the lyrics, explaining his technique of trying to go beyond what the next MC is going to do. Throughout the film, Ice-T adds in his own commentary about the MC and being one himself has important points about the role of the MC. Ice-T stresses the MC has a gift of communication and states the MC, ââ¬Å"Gets everybody s attention with displays of verbal acrobatics,â⬠which I believe is a great way to explain the art of MCââ¬â¢ing.
